Biochemistry Basics
Biochemistry is the chemistry of the living world. Plants, animals, single-celled
organisms....they all use the same basic chemical compounds to live their lives. Biochemistry
is about the smallest parts of those organisms, the molecules & it's also about the cycles that
happen to create those compounds.

Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology
Website that accompanies the Anatomy & Physiology class textbook. Many helpful study tools

Guided Tour of the Visible Human
The Visible Human Project has generated over 18000 digitized sections of the human body.
This introduction & tour uses images & animals from the project to teach key concepts in
human anatomy.

The Living Skeleton
A tour of human bones in xrays. There are eight sections that represent different areas of the
body. Click on the name of any section & go to a gallery of images with text describing each
image.

Visible Human Embryo
A visual guide through fetal development from fertilization through pregnancy to birth. As the
most profound physiologic changes occur in the "first trimester" of pregnancy, these "Carnegie
stages" are given prominence on the birth cycle.

"Life's Greatest Miracle"
The companion site to a NOVA broadcast which used microimagery to track human
development from embryo to newborn. Features include: "Great Expectations - the journal of a
mother-to-be," "Windows on the Womb," "the stem cell debate,:" "how cells divide," & "how is
sex determined."

Yucky, Gross, & Cool Body
Find out about all the gross & cool stuff humans' bodies create -- burps, snores, gas, zits, eye
gunk, & more.

My Body for Kids
Mouse over the diagram of the human body & read an article about that part. Designed for
middle school, but still a good site for teens.

Virtual Fetal Pig Dissection
This simulation was designed to provide an alternative exercise for students in introductory
biology classes.

Virtual Frog Dissection
This demo is from froguts.com, using recycled frogs from schools.

Virtual Cat Dissection
Anatomically Correct: The On-line Cat Dissection allows you to virtually dissect a cat, learn
about multiple features of its anatomy, & then test your skills on the material you learned.
Includes labeled diagrams & live video.

Biointeractive Animations
Features stem cells, evolution, obesity, cancer, neuroscience, genomics & chemical genetics,
sex determination, biological clocks, infectious diseases, cardiovascular, immunology, DNA, &
RNA.

BioInteractive Virtual Labs
Includes the transgenic fly virtual lab, the bacterial identification lab, cardiology lab, neuro-
physiology lab, & the immunology lab. This site, produced by the Howard Hughes Medical
Institute, has won top honors for multimedia tools designed to educate about science &
technology.

The Human Brain
You have been entrusted with the care & feeding of the most extraordinary & complex creation in
the universe. Home to your mind & personality, your brain houses your cherished memories &
future hopes. It orchestrates the symphony of consciousness that gives you purpose & passion,
motion & emotion. But what do you really know about it?

Neuroscience
Explore the world of neuroscience, brain "basics," "higher" functions, the spinal cord, the
peripheral nervous system, sensory systems, neuroscience methods & techniques, effects of
drugs on the nervous system, neurological & mental disorders, & common diseases &
disorders.

The Heart: An Online Exploration
Explore the heart. Discover the complexities of its development & structure. Follow the blood
through the blood vessels. Wander through the weblike body systems. Learn how to have a
healthy heart & how to monitor your heart's health. Look back at the history of heart science.

Genetics Tutorial
Presented in six levels building upon the concepts presented in the previous one. Study genes
& chromosomes, alleles & mutations, probability, linked genes, recombination, & sex
determination.

Mutant Fruit Flies
One fruit fly should look pretty much like any other. But the flies here all look different from
"normal" fruit flies. That's because mutations in each fly's genetic code have altered their colors
& shapes.

Genetic Science Learning Center
Features animations & activities for learning about DNA, cells, & other topics in genetics &
bioscience. Helps people understand how genetics affects their lives & society.

National Biological Information Infrastructure
Your home for biological information on the Web. Includes plants, animals, & other organisms,
habitats, ecological topics, geographic perspectives, & a toolkit.

Microbes
This microbiology information portal includes information about general, environmental, food,
industrial, medical, & veterinary microbiology.

Animal Diversity Web
Browse Kingdom Animalia: amphibians, arthropods, bird, bony fishes, echinoderms, insects,
mammals, mollusks, reptiles, & sharks.

Biology of Plants
Plants are alive, just like people & animals. How do we know this? Living things all do certain
things. Includes an introduction, starting to grow, plant parts, making food, pollination, seed
dispersal, plant adaptations, & plants & life on Earth.

Evolvovision
Click the TV to evolve a single cell into that lovable ape we call the Human Being.
